Food Rescue Project

Part of our Meals Program, the Food Rescue Project brings together local food providers interested in donating leftover food to those in need. This food would otherwise be thrown away and instead goes to feed hungry families. The cafeterias of Bates College, Central Maine Medical Center, St. Mary’s D’Youville Pavilion, and the University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College donate excess food from their daily meals. The Lewiston Hannaford Supermarket donates about-to-expire bakery, meat, deli, bread, and produce items. These donations allow good food to reach the people who need it. A team of volunteers does more than 15 pick-ups each week and anyone interested in volunteering can email volunteer@trinityjubileecenter.org. We also accept donations from restaurants, summer camps, and events. Any food scraps from Trinity are collected and donated to a local pig farmer, ensuring that the food does not go to waste.
